Delaware State Police Investigate Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash in North Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DE — A fatal single-vehicle crash in north Wilmington is under investigation by the Delaware State Police. The incident, which saw a black Mitsubishi Outlander veer off the road and crash into a guardrail and two trees, occurred sometime between November 25 and December 6, 2023.

The crash was reported on December 6, around 4:09 p.m., after a passing motorist noticed the vehicle off the road and alerted authorities. Upon arrival, troopers discovered that the vehicle had crossed from the westbound into the eastbound lane on Lancaster Pike, just west of Hercules Road. The car then drove off the south edge of the road, crashing into a guardrail and continuing through vegetation before striking two trees.

During the crash, the driver, a 42-year-old man from Oxford, Pennsylvania, was ejected from the car. The vehicle eventually came to rest in a creek located south of Lancaster Pike. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld until family members are notified.

Following the crash, Lancaster Pike was closed for approximately four hours to allow for a thorough investigation and the removal of obstructions from the roadway.

The investigation is ongoing, led by the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit. Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact Senior Corporal M.
