CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — Boomi is expanding its enterprise AI platform with a vendor- and model-neutral control layer designed to govern how AI agents access corporate systems, enforce security policies and track spending as businesses move more autonomous workloads into production.
The Agent Control Plane sits between AI agents, models or applications and enterprise systems, giving organizations a central point for monitoring activity, controlling access and imposing human approval requirements on higher-risk transactions.
Boomi said the infrastructure can run in public clouds, customers’ virtual private clouds or on-premises. The architecture is intended to let companies keep sensitive data and intellectual property within private networks or regional boundaries while using their own models and specialized small language models.
The product targets a governance problem emerging as businesses deploy AI agents across financial, customer and other transactional systems. Gartner predicts that 40% of enterprises will demote or decommission autonomous AI agents by 2027 because of governance gaps discovered after production incidents, according to research cited by Boomi.
Cost control is another focus. A 2026 FinOps Foundation survey of 1,192 practitioners representing more than $83 billion in annual cloud spending found 98% now manage AI spending, up from 31% two years earlier.
Boomi is positioning its AI Gateway as the enforcement layer within the control plane. Built using technology from its acquisition of Lunar.dev, the gateway is designed to inspect traffic, apply identity and rate limits, control token spending and hold certain transactional actions for human approval.
“The governance conversation has shifted from model risk to execution risk,” Omdia Chief Analyst Michael Barnes said. Enterprises, he said, increasingly need to know what an agent does to systems such as a general ledger or customer record, what the action costs and whether the decision can later be reconstructed for an audit.
Boomi Connect will allow compatible AI agents to access enterprise systems through governed Model Context Protocol servers and tools. The company said it provides more than 1,000 pre-built MCP servers and tools, with access provisioned through existing identity providers and individual tool calls authenticated, logged and metered.
The technology is designed to support AI tools including Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini while remaining independent of a particular model or cloud provider.
Boomi is also extending its platform beyond access controls. Agent Context is designed to ground AI activity in business definitions and data lineage, while Boomi Orchestrate allows users to translate natural-language instructions into workflows spanning multiple systems and stage those workflows for testing and review.
Expanded application programming interfaces and developer tools will provide additional ways to orchestrate and manage agent development, data and platform operations. Boomi is also developing capabilities including agent trust scoring.
A Forrester Consulting study commissioned by Boomi in July found 86% of surveyed leaders said their organizations had moved beyond AI-agent pilots, but only 34% trusted the actions their agentic systems took. Organizations that deployed agents before they were ready reported an average $2.1 million in additional costs, according to the research.
“Finance has arrived in the middle of every AI conversation,” Boomi Chairman and CEO Steve Lucas said. He argued that companies need to determine “which agent spent this, on what, and who approved it” before they can justify scaling AI investments.
Boomi said its platform serves more than 30,000 customers, processes more than 200 billion messages per quarter and holds more than 16 security certifications.
