CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — Boomi named longtime technology finance executive Mike Hickman chief financial officer as the software company focuses on scaling its global operations profitably across a business serving more than 30,000 customers.
Hickman will oversee Boomi’s global finance and accounting organization, including financial planning and analysis, accounting, treasury, tax and financial reporting. He will report to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Steve Lucas.
The appointment gives Boomi a finance chief with experience spanning public-company growth, an initial public offering, a major take-private transaction and acquisition integration.
Hickman joins Boomi after 7½ years at cybersecurity company Proofpoint, where he most recently served as senior vice president of finance. During his tenure, Proofpoint underwent a $12.3 billion take-private transaction and acquired Hornetsecurity for $1.8 billion.
He previously held finance leadership roles at Adobe and built the financial planning and analysis operation at Marin Software ahead of its IPO. Earlier in his career, Hickman worked at eBay and Vitria Technology.
“Scaling that profitably is the work ahead, and it is a finance challenge as much as a product one,” Lucas said.
Boomi has more than 2,200 employees and a network of 800 partners in addition to its more than 30,000 customers, according to the company.
Hickman said his focus will be on developing the financial discipline needed to support continued expansion across Boomi’s international operations.
“The hard part is never the growth itself. It is building the discipline that lets you keep growing,” Hickman said. “My job is to make sure our financial operations scale with the opportunity, in every region we operate in.”
The appointment puts financial scalability and profitable growth at the center of Hickman’s mandate as Boomi expands its data and software platform for enterprise customers.
