LANCASTER, PA — Blackbird Health has opened a pediatric mental health clinic in Lancaster, expanding access to behavioral health services in a region where providers face growing demand and persistent shortages of care for children and adolescents.
The new facility, located at 1390 Harrisburg Pike, will provide mental health evaluations, therapy, medication management and coordinated treatment services for children and teens throughout Lancaster County and the broader Susquehanna Valley, the company said.
The expansion comes as pediatric mental health needs continue to outpace available services nationwide. According to data cited by the company from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in five children ages 3 to 17 has a diagnosed mental, emotional or behavioral health condition.
Blackbird Health said the Lancaster location was established to address barriers that often include lengthy waitlists, limited local resources and travel to larger health systems for specialized pediatric behavioral health care.
“Families shouldn’t have to wait months or travel hours to get answers for their child,” said Dr. Michael Tang, the company’s chief medical officer and a child and adolescent psychiatrist. “Lancaster families deserve access to high-quality pediatric mental health care close to home.”
The clinic will serve children and adolescents experiencing conditions including anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavioral challenges, emotional regulation difficulties and neurodivergent conditions.
The company said Lancaster County was selected because of increasing demand for pediatric behavioral health resources from families, schools and healthcare providers, coupled with a growing population of children and families.
Blackbird Health’s treatment model integrates mental health care with developmental, educational and family considerations, aiming to coordinate care across multiple aspects of a child’s daily life.
In addition to providing direct patient services, the company said it plans to work with local pediatricians, educators, counselors and community organizations to expand behavioral health support networks throughout the region.
The Lancaster clinic is Blackbird Health’s latest expansion as healthcare providers seek to address continuing shortages of pediatric mental health services across Pennsylvania and other parts of the United States.
