PHILADELPHIA, PA — Attalon Inc. plans to open an 80,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and headquarters in Philadelphia in summer 2027, investing more than $30 million to quadruple production of coatings and materials used in guided munitions and other defense systems.
The expansion will include 60,000 square feet of manufacturing space and consolidate the defense technology company’s domestic crystal-growth operations at one site. Attalon expects to add more than 100 jobs over the next decade, including 65 positions as operations ramp up.
The company positioned the project as a response to supply constraints affecting components used in U.S. weapons production. Its coatings and optical materials are incorporated into guided weapons, munitions and tactical platforms.
“Demand for precise, durable and repeatable coatings and materials is now outpacing supply,” Chief Executive Officer John Bergeron stated. He added that the investment would increase production speed while keeping manufacturing in the United States.
Attalon will transfer production of potassium nickel sulfate, calcium fluoride and ultraviolet glasses to the new facility. Those materials support optical and infrared components used in munitions and defense platforms.
The company plans to spend more than $30 million on the site and manufacturing equipment over the next decade. The location will more than quadruple Attalon’s current precision-coatings capacity, according to the company.
U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick described the investment as part of an effort to expand domestic production of components used in guided munitions and strengthen Pennsylvania’s defense manufacturing sector.
Attalon develops directed-energy, optical, coating and thermal technologies for defense applications. The privately held company did not disclose the facility’s address or the financing structure for the expansion.
