DOUGLASSVILLE, PA — Employees of American Crane & Equipment Corp. joined more than 500 volunteers in Berks County to package 250,000 meals for families experiencing food insecurity, contributing to what organizers describe as the largest United Way-led meal packaging event in the country.
The company’s volunteer team participated in the 10th Annual Big Cheese meal packaging event on June 12 at Penn State Berks, where volunteers assembled nutritionally fortified meals for distribution through local hunger relief organizations.
According to United Way of Berks County, the packaged meals include macaroni and cheese and apple cinnamon oatmeal. Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank will distribute most of the meals, while a portion will be provided directly to the Reading School District to support students during the school year.
American Crane’s employee outreach committee, Hoist Up!, coordinated the company’s participation in the annual volunteer event.
Stephanie Delibertis, the company’s owner and executive director of outreach and development, said volunteer initiatives strengthen employee engagement while supporting community needs.
“Even a small contribution can make a big difference,” Delibertis said.
The annual Big Cheese event brings together businesses, nonprofit organizations and community volunteers to address food insecurity across Berks County through large-scale meal packaging efforts.
