Pennsylvania Game Commission Opens Doors to Aspiring Game Wardens

Pennsylvania Game Commission

HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Game Commission is inviting interested individuals to join its ranks and become part of a 129-year tradition of safeguarding the state’s wildlife resources. The application window for the 37th Cadet Class is now open and will close on March 7, 2024. Those who are selected will begin their training in March 2025 and graduate as game wardens in February 2026.

In an effort to encourage more individuals to serve the Commonwealth, the Game Commission has made significant changes to the application process. Previously, applicants were required to have completed 60 college credits to qualify. However, this requirement has been removed. Now, all that is needed to apply is a high school diploma or GED. Additionally, applicants must either have completed Hunter-Trapper Education or commit to doing so by the application deadline.

“We’ve now streamlined the process for those who want to serve the Commonwealth as a game warden and would like to see more individuals take advantage of this opportunity,” said Game Commission Executive Director Bryan Burhans. He added, “If applicants are willing to work hard to protect our wildlife resources, and possess the qualities we value, college credits will not stand between them and a rewarding career with the Game Commission.”

The role of a game warden is dynamic and challenging, with no two days on the job being the same. Duties range from enforcing wildlife laws and investigating violations to educating the public about wildlife conservation.

For those interested in pursuing this unique and fulfilling career, they can contact the Game Commission’s team at PGCcareers@pa.gov for additional details or answers to questions.

Applications can be submitted through the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s website. Don’t miss this opportunity to make a difference and protect Pennsylvania’s diverse wildlife for future generations.
