Pennsylvania Engineering Firms Shine at ACEC/PA Diamond Awards for Engineering Excellence

HARRISBURG, PA — The American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania (ACEC/PA) recently celebrated the outstanding contributions of engineering firms from across the state at its annual Diamond Awards for Engineering Excellence. The awards, recognized for combining essential safety measures, remarkable engineering, and striking designs, showcased the talent and dedication of ACEC/PA members.

Engineering firms from across the Keystone State participated in the awards, submitting entries for design, safety, and engineering projects aimed at fostering stronger and diverse communities. Brent Sailhamer, ACEC/PA executive director, acknowledged the difficulty in selecting winners but noted that this year’s awardees represented the pinnacle of Pennsylvania’s engineering consulting industry.

The winning projects exhibited collaborative efforts to create necessary facilities, fortify infrastructure, enhance public safety, and remain environmentally conscious. The Diamond Award, a tribute to the winning project and its engineering firm, also commends clients, owners, sub-consultants, contractors, and everyone involved in bringing the projects to fruition.

Among the honored projects were:

  • AECOM and PennDOT Engineering District 6 received the Award for Studies, Research, and Consulting for their Virtual Tool for Innovative Engagement project.
  • Jacobs received the Award for Building and Technology Systems for the PennDOT Engineering District 6 New Regional Traffic Management Center project.
  • HDR was presented with the Award for Structural Systems for the Fern Hollow Bridge Emergency Replacement project.
  • McCormick Taylor won the Award for Environmental for their Pollinator Habitat Pilot project.
  • GPD Group received the Award for Waste and Stormwater for the 2020 Large Diameter Sewer Rehabilitation project.
  • Jacobs also received the Award for Water Resources for the Wetlands at Long’s Park project.
  • WSP was bestowed with the Award for Transportation for the Broad Street Bridge Reconstruction project.
  • The Award for Special Projects went to McCormick Taylor for the Pymatuning Spillway Trail/Messerall Truss project.
  • Greenman-Pedersen received the Award for Small Projects for the Rehabilitation of the SR 92 Section 750 project.
  • JMT was honored with the Award for Construction Management and Construction Inspection for the Monongahela Subaqueous Interceptor CIPP Rehabilitation project.
  • The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Award was presented to AECOM.
  • The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority was given the Client of Distinction Award.
  • Prudent Engineering received the Most Valuable Partner Award.
  • Benesch won both the Best Panel Award and the Grand Conceptor Award for the I-95 Bridge Collapse Emergency Repairs project.
  • Eric Frary from Michael Baker International was honored with the Distinguished Award of Merit.

The Diamond Awards for Engineering Excellence provides a platform for celebrating the best in Pennsylvania’s engineering industry, encouraging innovation and excellence in the field.
