HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is warning residents about a new scam involving fraudulent text messages falsely claiming to be from the DMV or the federal Department of Homeland Security.

The messages urge recipients to click on a link and provide personal and payment information to allegedly verify or process REAL ID credentials. PennDOT emphasized that it never requests identity documents or personal information through text messages, email, or online uploads.

There is no process allowing customers to pre-scan or submit REAL ID documents from home or mobile devices. Any solicitation asking for such information is not affiliated with PennDOT and may be an attempt to commit fraud or identity theft.

PennDOT advises residents to remain vigilant and avoid responding to these messages or clicking on suspicious links. Individuals can report scams to the Federal Trade Commission or the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.
