November Whitewater Release Canceled: Low Levels at Lake Nockamixon!

Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR)

UPPER BLACK EDDY, PA – The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) has announced the cancellation of its semiannual November whitewater release from Lake Nockamixon into Tohickon Creek, citing insufficient water levels as the primary reason.

Current dry conditions, coupled with a lack of precipitation in the 10-day forecast, have resulted in water levels at Lake Nockamixon being one foot below the threshold required for a successful whitewater release from the dam.

Historically, these releases are conducted on a semiannual basis, typically taking place on the third weekend in March and the first weekend in November. The decision reflects the DCNR’s commitment to maintaining safe and sustainable water management practices while adapting to environmental conditions.
