HARRISBURG, PA — Jim Thorpe Borough dedicated a new 22,500-square-foot public works garage Wednesday, completing a $4 million USDA-backed infrastructure project designed to improve equipment storage, maintenance capacity and worker safety outside the borough’s developed center.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture financed the project through its Rural Development Community Facilities program, which provides loans, loan guarantees and grants for essential public infrastructure in rural communities.
The garage will provide indoor storage for municipal equipment, dedicated space for vehicle and machinery maintenance and capacity for future expansion.
USDA Rural Development Pennsylvania State Director Chris Hoffman joined borough officials for the dedication ceremony.
“We are honored to support communities like Jim Thorpe—communities that plan carefully, work collaboratively, and approach projects with a high standard of professionalism,” Hoffman stated.
The new location is intended to give the borough a safer and more functional base for public works operations while protecting vehicles and equipment from weather exposure.
USDA’s Community Facilities program supports projects involving public safety, health care, education and other essential services in rural areas.
