PARKESBURG, PA — The Parkesburg Borough Police Department has earned a national law enforcement leadership designation after its command staff completed a three-part executive development program, placing the Chester County agency among 306 departments and organizations recognized for completing the training.
The FBI-Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (FBI-LEEDA) Agency Trilogy Award recognizes agencies whose command personnel have completed the organization’s Supervisor Leadership Institute, Command Leadership Institute and Executive Leadership Institute.
The designation reflects an investment in management training intended to strengthen departmental operations, officer supervision and community relations.
The curriculum covers ethical leadership, organizational effectiveness, emotional intelligence, implicit bias awareness and community engagement. It also addresses strategies for building public trust and improving crime reduction efforts.
Parkesburg Police Chief Ryan Murtagh said the training provided command staff with practical management tools that can be applied throughout the department.
“Our command staff gained valuable insights and practical tools to strengthen our leadership approach and support our officers,” Murtagh said. “We’re proud to earn this recognition and will continue using what we’ve learned to improve our department and the service we provide to our community.”
FBI-LEEDA provides leadership and management education to public safety professionals at different career levels. Its courses are taught by experienced law enforcement executives and focus on supervisory responsibilities, organizational leadership and executive decision-making.
The Agency Trilogy Award is granted to departments whose command staff complete all three institutes. Since the award’s inception, 306 law enforcement organizations nationwide have received the designation.
FBI-LEEDA Executive Director Jacques Battiste credited the department’s leadership with making professional development an organizational priority.
“Under Chief Ryan Murtagh’s leadership, the Parkesburg Borough Police Department has demonstrated a strong commitment to cultivating capable, confident leaders who can inspire their teams, navigate complex challenges, and drive meaningful progress across the organization,” Battiste said.
The recognition establishes that Parkesburg’s command staff completed the association’s leadership curriculum, providing a common training foundation for supervisory and executive personnel.
For the borough police department, the designation marks the completion of a professional development initiative aimed at strengthening internal leadership and the delivery of police services.
