WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Department of War’s central data platform received a clean independent assessment of its financial-reporting controls for the period from Nov. 17, 2025, through June 30, 2026, reducing audit-testing demands on systems that rely on the platform as the department pursues an enterprise-wide clean financial audit by 2028.
The War Data Platform received an unmodified System and Organization Controls 1 Type 2 examination opinion, meaning the review found its relevant internal controls were suitably designed and operating effectively during the examination period.
The platform operates in an Impact Level 5 environment and provides financial-statement audit data used by systems and entities across the department.
A clean SOC 1 Type 2 opinion can reduce the amount of separate control testing required for financial systems and organizations relying on the platform, making the result relevant beyond the WDP itself.
The examination follows work involving the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office, the Office of the Under Secretary of War (Comptroller) and the Department of the Navy.
“Reliable data is the bedrock of financial accountability,” Deputy Chief Financial Officer Tom Harker said. He described the examination result as a step toward the department’s goal of achieving a clean enterprise-wide financial audit by 2028.
The WDP serves as an enterprise-wide data foundation supporting the department’s financial reporting and audit requirements.
The department is using the platform as part of a broader effort to strengthen the integrity and auditability of financial data and modernize the systems supporting financial reporting and operational requirements.
The clean SOC 1 Type 2 opinion represents a platform-level control assessment rather than an enterprise-wide clean financial audit. The department continues to pursue that broader audit objective under its refreshed audit strategy.
