WASHINGTON, D.C. — Six additional meat and poultry processors have adopted the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s voluntary “Product of USA” label, expanding the use of a designation reserved for products derived from animals born, raised, harvested and processed in the United States.
The latest additions bring the label to processors in Kansas, Texas and Georgia as the USDA continues promoting the program as a way to distinguish domestically produced meat and poultry in the marketplace.
The newly participating companies are Creekstone Farms of Kansas; Caviness Beef Packers; CS Beef Packers of Texas; Greener Pastures of Texas; Lone Star Beef Processors of Texas; and Claxton Poultry Farms of Georgia.
The label was revised under USDA regulations to ensure it applies only to meat, poultry and egg products sourced entirely from animals born, raised, slaughtered and processed in the United States.
Agriculture Secretary Brooke L. Rollins said the department expects additional processors to adopt the label in the coming months as participation expands.
“American consumers want to know where their food comes from, and they deserve labels they can trust,” Rollins stated.
The label initiative complements the department’s Strengthening Processing for U.S. Ranchers, or SPUR, program, a $500 million initiative intended to help eligible small- and mid-sized beef processors preserve or expand domestic processing capacity.
USDA described the combined efforts as intended to strengthen the domestic meat supply chain, expand processing capacity, and create additional market opportunities for U.S. livestock producers.
