PHILADELPHIA, PA — The U.S. Postal Service is accepting letters for its 114th Operation Santa program, opening the annual effort that connects children and families seeking holiday gifts with individuals and groups willing to fulfill their requests.
Letters are being accepted from throughout the continental U.S., Hawaii and Puerto Rico. To be eligible for potential adoption, submissions must follow the program’s guidelines and be postmarked by Dec. 5.
The Postal Service cautions that submitting a letter does not guarantee it will be adopted.

Registration for people interested in adopting letters begins Nov. 2. Participants may register as individuals or groups.
The adoption period opens Nov. 16, when registered participants can select individual or family letters and fulfill requested gifts.
“For more than 100 years, USPS Operation Santa has given kindhearted people the opportunity to make dreams come true for thousands of children and their families through simple acts of kindness,” Sheila Holman, the Postal Service’s vice president of marketing, stated.
Operation Santa traces its roots to postal employees responding to letters addressed to Santa more than a century ago. The current program allows members of the public to adopt participating letters and purchase gifts for their writers.
