Postal Service Expands 250th Anniversary Campaign With Stamps, Historic Sites

U.S. Postal Service

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Postal Service is expanding its role in the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations with commemorative stamps, special mail products, historical post office initiatives, and events tied to the Semiquincentennial observance in 2026.

The effort positions the Postal Service, which traces its origins to 1775, as both a participant in and a commemorator of the nation’s anniversary, highlighting its historic role in connecting communities and supporting commerce across the United States.

The Postal Service is encouraging customers to visit post offices whose operations date to 1776, where some locations will host local exhibits, community art displays, and stamp-related events.

A major component of the campaign centers on commemorative stamp releases tied to the nation’s founding and Revolutionary War history.

Among the upcoming releases is the Declaration of Independence stamp pane, scheduled for a July 4 first-day-of-issue event in Philadelphia. The collection commemorates the document that established the nation’s independence in 1776.

Other recent and planned releases include the American Icons series curated by fashion designer Ralph Lauren, Treasures of the Revolutionary Era, Figures of the American Revolution, and Bald Eagle: From Hatchling to Adult.

The Postal Service has also issued stamps commemorating the 250th anniversary of the First Continental Congress and the Battlefields of the American Revolution.

Beyond stamps, the agency plans to offer commemorative cachets, stamp-themed memorabilia, specially designed Priority Mail shipping supplies, and a nationwide anniversary postmark that will appear on processed mail during July and August.

The Postal Service said 30 collection boxes in 24 cities associated with events from the nation’s founding have been redesigned with patriotic themes as part of the anniversary campaign.

The initiative is being conducted in partnership with America 250 and Freedom 250 organizations as preparations continue for the nation’s Semiquincentennial celebrations.
