WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is opening a nationwide recruitment drive for scientific experts and consumer representatives to fill current and anticipated vacancies on advisory committees that influence regulatory decisions on drugs, vaccines, biologics, medical devices and other products.

The agency is publishing two Federal Register notices covering separate categories of candidates: scientific, technical and professional voting members, and consumer representatives.

The committees provide independent recommendations to the FDA on complex regulatory and public-health questions, though final decisions remain with the agency.

The FDA is seeking expertise across fields including oncology, cardiovascular medicine, neurology, genetics and medical devices.

Scientific and technical nominees must demonstrate relevant subject-matter expertise, an ability to interpret complex scientific information and the capacity to provide objective advice on issues before the committees.

Consumer representatives are expected to have experience with consumer or community organizations and be able to evaluate technical information, product risks and benefits, safety and efficacy from a public perspective.

“These panels provide independent expertise and rigorous scrutiny as the FDA navigates complex and rapidly evolving areas of science,” Acting FDA Commissioner Kyle Diamantas said.

The agency will accept nominations on a continuing basis, including self-nominations.

Consumer-representative candidates seeking first consideration for current and near-term openings should submit nominations by Nov. 15, 2026. Scientific, technical, professional and other voting-member nominations should be submitted by Nov. 30.

Applications received after those dates may be considered as later vacancies arise.

Advisory committee members can serve terms of up to four years.
