Hot Water Failures Force Shutdown, Violations Found at County Sites

Food Safety Inspections

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County Health Department cited two food facilities for violations following inspections conducted Friday, including one location ordered to halt operations due to inadequate hot water.

At ABCD Restaurant in Malvern, inspectors found the facility’s hot water heater was not producing sufficient hot water to supply sinks. Officials said the restaurant may not operate until hot water is restored to required levels and verified by environmental health staff.

Health guidelines require hot water of at least 110°F for dishwashing and 85°F for handwashing.

At KAU Little League in Kennett Square, inspectors reported hot water at a two-bay sink ranged from 88°F to 106°F and dropped as water continued to run. The facility was instructed to repair or replace the water heater to ensure consistent temperatures of at least 110°F.
