TREDYFFRIN TWP, PA — Chabad Lubavitch of Chester County and Western Main Line is seeking township approval to expand its institutional use across two adjoining properties in Devon, a proposal that will face a conditional-use hearing October 19 and could affect parking, traffic, and neighboring residential properties.
The Tredyffrin Township Board of Supervisors will consider the application at 5:30 p.m. in Keene Hall at the Township Building, 1100 DuPortail Road, Berwyn.
The proposal covers properties at 946 and 916 N. Valley Forge Road and seeks authorization for a synagogue, parsonage, religious school, and associated parking under the township’s Institutional Overlay regulations.
Township planning records identify 946 N. Valley Forge Road as an existing religious facility. The application would extend the institutional use to the adjoining property at 916 N. Valley Forge Road.
The proposed expansion requires conditional-use approval from the Board of Supervisors. No approval has been granted.
The hearing will provide an opportunity for supervisors to examine the proposed use and receive testimony concerning its compatibility with applicable zoning requirements.
Parking arrangements, traffic circulation, and the relationship between the expanded institutional use and surrounding residential properties are among the potential land-use considerations.
Following the hearing, supervisors may approve the application, impose conditions on an approval, deny the request, or continue proceedings to another date.
Chabad Lubavitch of Chester County and Western Main Line operates a synagogue and Jewish community center at 946 N. Valley Forge Road in Devon, serving residents throughout Chester County and Philadelphia’s western suburbs.
The organization is co-directed by Rabbi Yossi Kaplan and Tickey Kaplan and is affiliated with the international Chabad-Lubavitch movement.
Its existing activities include religious services, Hebrew school instruction, youth programs, adult education, and community outreach.
The organization also provides Bar and Bat Mitzvah preparation, Jewish educational programming and religious services associated with holidays and lifecycle events.
The conditional-use application concerns the proposed institutional use of the two properties rather than approval of a completed expansion.
The October 19 hearing is scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Additional meeting information is available through the township’s official calendar at https://www.tredyffrin.org/Residents/Event-Calendar.
