WEST GROVE, PA — Atelier Collective opened in Jenner’s Commons in September, introducing an art-centered social club that founder Liz Megill is positioning as a gathering place for adults seeking creative activities and in-person connection outside home and work.
The West Grove business combines a reservation-based Art Café with instructor-led workshops, social events and private gatherings. Select programming is also available for children and families.
At the center of the concept is the Art Café, where customers reserve a time, select a project from a changing menu and use materials supplied by Atelier to work independently at their own pace. No previous art experience is required.
Unlike a traditional art class built around a set lesson, the format allows customers to choose what they want to make. Atelier’s broader programming includes Makers Meetup, Collage Club, Plant Bingo, seasonal events and date nights.
“Give people something to do with their hands and the conversation takes care of itself,” Megill said.
Megill developed the business around the concept of a “third place,” a social setting separate from home and work where people can gather informally and build relationships.
The model is aimed primarily at adults, including customers visiting alone, groups of friends, couples and local makers who typically work independently. Mini Makers and family sessions provide selected opportunities for adults and children to participate together.
Megill brings both an arts and hospitality background to the venture. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts and has worked in ceramics, painting, mural arts, window displays and visual installations.
Her professional experience includes hospitality, events and brand experiences, including helping develop the weddings and events business at Terrain. She later founded Allaire Event Rental & Design.
“I started Atelier because I wanted a place like this in my own community,” Megill stated. “A place where creativity wasn’t about being an artist or being good at something. It was simply a reason to get out, try something new and connect with the people around you.”
Atelier also offers private creative events and celebrations. Its Art Café operates by reservation rather than as a drop-in service.
