VALLEY FORGE, PA — Vanguard has introduced a free investment simulation for high school classrooms as more states require personal finance education for graduation, expanding the firm’s effort to provide educators with classroom-ready financial literacy tools.
The asset manager said My Classroom Investor is designed for students in grades 9 through 12 and allows participants to navigate a 30-year investing simulation based on changing market conditions. The launch comes as 30 states now require students to complete a personal finance course before graduating, increasing demand for curriculum materials that teachers can implement without specialized investing expertise.
The program places students in simulated long-term investment scenarios, asking them to make decisions about saving, investing and responding to changing market conditions. Rather than measuring success solely by investment returns, the platform evaluates the quality of students’ decision-making, emphasizing behaviors such as goal setting, cost awareness, discipline and portfolio balance.
Vanguard stated that the platform includes customizable classroom settings, teacher resources and lesson support intended to integrate with existing coursework. The company is offering the program at no cost to educators.
“We believe every student should have the opportunity to learn how investing can support long-term financial well-being,” Aldustus (AJ) Jordan, Vanguard’s head of community stewardship, said in a statement. “My Classroom Investor helps bring Vanguard’s mission into the classroom by expanding access to practical investing education and giving students a hands-on way to build confidence in the decisions that can shape their financial futures.”
The release of My Classroom Investor expands Vanguard’s portfolio of educational programs for schools. The company previously launched My Classroom Economy, a financial literacy program for elementary and middle school students that uses a classroom economy model to teach concepts such as earning, saving and spending.
According to Vanguard, My Classroom Economy has reached more than 1.3 million students since its introduction.
