MALVERN, PA — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) introduced four 650 V power modules designed to reduce losses in industrial power-conversion systems while allowing equipment makers to upgrade compatible designs without changing their printed circuit boards.
The Vishay Semiconductors VS-FC50SA65, VS-FC100SA65, VS-FC150SA65 and VS-FC50LA65 use superjunction MOSFET technology and come in the industry-standard SOT-227 package.
Three of the modules use a single-switch configuration with nominal current ratings of 50 A, 100 A and 150 A. The fourth is a 50 A low-side chopper that integrates a 650 V silicon carbide diode.
The devices are designed to balance on-resistance and gate charge, two factors that affect conduction and switching losses in power electronics. Vishay is positioning the modules for systems where manufacturers are seeking higher power-conversion efficiency without redesigning existing circuit boards.
Target applications include solar inverters, hydrogen generation and fuel-cell systems, high-voltage direct-current infrastructure, charging stations, switch-mode power supplies, welding and cutting equipment, uninterruptible power supplies, lighting systems and rail power supplies.
Vishay is also targeting medical imaging equipment, including X-ray and MRI systems.
The modules operate across a temperature range of minus 55 degrees Celsius to 150 degrees Celsius. Their SOT-227 packaging allows the components to serve as drop-in replacements for compatible competing products, potentially avoiding the cost and engineering work associated with printed circuit board redesigns.
Typical on-resistance ranges from 45 milliohms for the 50 A low-side chopper to 14.8 milliohms for the 150 A single-switch module. Gate charge ranges from 167 nanocoulombs for the two 50 A devices to 508 nanocoulombs for the 150 A model.
Samples and production quantities of all four modules are available, with lead times of 12 weeks.
