MALVERN, PA — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) introduced a new infrared receiver series designed to support multiple remote-control code frequencies with a single component, potentially reducing board space and system costs in consumer electronics.
The Vishay Semiconductors TSOP15300 series accepts modulation frequencies from 30 kHz to 68 kHz, allowing the receivers to handle a broad range of remote-control protocols without requiring separate devices tuned to different center frequencies.
Standard infrared receivers are typically optimized for a single frequency, which can require manufacturers to use multiple components when supporting different code sets. Vishay is targeting that design constraint with the wider acceptance range.
The devices are intended for televisions, audio systems, gaming consoles, soundbars, set-top boxes and video projectors, among other consumer electronics.
Vishay designed the receivers to resist interference from common sources including compact fluorescent lamps, LCD televisions and onboard Wi-Fi antennas.
When paired with a 50 mA emitter, the TSOP15300 devices support transmission distances of up to 18 meters, according to the company.
Each receiver integrates a photodetector, preamplifier circuit and infrared filter in a four-pin Heimdall package. The demodulated output can connect directly to a microprocessor for decoding.
The series operates across a 2.0 V to 5.5 V supply range and draws a typical supply current of 0.35 mA. Maximum irradiance is 0.2 mW/m² at 45 kHz.
The receivers are optimized for short-burst codes and are RoHS-compliant and halogen-free.
