Vishay Boosts Rectifier Performance in Smaller Package

Vishay Intertechnology

MALVERN, PA — Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (NYSE: VSH) introduced four surface-mount rectifier series that increase current and surge capability while reducing component height, targeting tighter power-system designs across commercial, industrial and automotive applications.

The Vishay General Semiconductor SE50N6x, SE80N6x, SE100N6x and SE120N6x series carry respective current ratings of 5 A, 8 A, 10 A and 12 A. Each is available with reverse-voltage ratings of 200 V, 400 V and 600 V, with AEC-Q101-qualified versions offered for automotive applications.

The rectifiers use Vishay’s DFN6546A package, the latest addition to its Power DFN family. The package measures 6.5 mm by 4.6 mm and has a typical height of 0.88 mm, reducing the vertical space required on printed circuit boards.

Compared with rectifiers in SMPC, or TO-277A, packages with the same footprint, Vishay said the new devices have a 10% lower profile, 20% higher current ratings and 82% greater forward-surge capability.

The performance gains come from construction and die-placement changes that allow greater copper content and larger chip sizes, improving heat dissipation and supporting higher current levels.

The devices are designed for power-line polarity protection and rail-to-rail protection. Vishay said their forward-voltage drops reach as low as 0.77 V, while typical reverse-leakage current is less than 0.1 μA.

Operating temperatures range from minus 55 degrees Celsius to 175 degrees Celsius. The rectifiers also provide electrostatic-discharge capability compliant with IEC 61000-4-2 in air-discharge mode.

Wettable flanks on the DFN6546A package allow solder joints to be checked using automated optical inspection, removing the need for X-ray inspection and supporting automated manufacturing processes.

The rectifiers carry a moisture sensitivity level of MSL 1 under J-STD-020, with a maximum lead-free peak temperature of 260 degrees Celsius. They are RoHS-compliant and halogen-free.
