U.S. stocks today recovered from an early technology-sector selloff to close higher, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average gaining 1.1% as corporate earnings helped offset concerns about inflation, Treasury yields and competition in the semiconductor industry.
The S&P 500 rose 0.3%, approaching its recent record highs after reversing earlier losses, while the technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.1%.
The recovery followed overnight weakness in Asian semiconductor and artificial intelligence stocks, where concerns about competition and valuations weighed on investor sentiment. U.S. technology shares pared some losses as trading progressed, although performance remained uneven among the largest companies.
Microsoft gained approximately 1.3%, leading advances among major technology companies. Amazon rose 0.6%, Alphabet added 0.4%, and Apple finished virtually unchanged, increasing 0.03%.
Nvidia declined approximately 1.4% to trade near $217 as semiconductor shares continued to face pressure over valuations and competition from custom AI chips.
Tesla fell about 1% ahead of a scheduled Roadster demonstration and its third-quarter earnings report next week. Meta Platforms slipped 0.3%.
Investors also weighed wholesale inflation figures and elevated Treasury yields against quarterly corporate earnings, which provided support for the broader market.
Cryptocurrencies failed to participate in the equity recovery.
Bitcoin declined approximately 2%, briefly approaching $81,500 before stabilizing between $81,800 and $82,300 later in the session. Ethereum fell more than 3%, trading between $2,410 and $2,450.
Solana, XRP and Dogecoin each lost approximately 2.5% to 3.5%, while Tron gained about 1%, diverging from the broader cryptocurrency decline.

The company pared a morning drop of more than 6.5% to finish down 0.45% at $28.76, steadying as pressure on industrial and component suppliers eased later in the session.
Omega Flex (NASDAQ: OFLX), an Exton-based industrial manufacturer, declined 1.08% to $25.59 in relatively light trading.
Just across county lines in Delaware County, Radnor-based biopharmaceutical firm Mineralys Therapeutics (NASDAQ: MLYS) also advanced, climbing 4.24% to $21.64.
The session reflected a divergence between broader equities and digital assets, with established industrial, healthcare, and enterprise software firms finding solid buyer support even as cryptocurrency markets and select hardware names faced headwinds.
For Chester County’s publicly traded companies, the strongest gains came from Bentley Systems, CubeSmart and West Pharmaceutical, while Vishay recovered most of its earlier decline as market conditions improved.
