CHESTER COUNTY, PA — The Domestic Violence Center of Chester County will use a $50,000 grant to address facility safety and accessibility issues, directing new funding toward infrastructure improvements intended to support victims seeking services and shelter.
The grant, awarded through a donor-advised fund of the Foxwynd Foundation, will fund repairs to the organization’s parking lot and entryway stairs, along with renovations designed to bring restrooms into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The investment highlights the operational challenges many nonprofit service providers face as they balance direct client services with maintaining facilities used by vulnerable populations.
According to the organization, the planned improvements are intended to eliminate safety hazards, improve accessibility for individuals with disabilities and enhance the functionality of spaces used by survivors of domestic violence and their families.
Erin Bentley, a member of the Foxwynd Foundation’s grant committee, said the funding is intended to support the organization’s ability to provide services in a safe and accessible environment.
“This grant supports enhancements that will help ensure DVCCC can continue offering a space that responds to the diverse needs of its clients,” Bentley said.
The Domestic Violence Center of Chester County provides support services to individuals and families affected by domestic violence. Organization officials said the infrastructure improvements will help strengthen the facility’s ability to deliver programs while addressing long-standing safety and accessibility concerns.
Chief Executive Officer Dr. Dolly Wideman-Scott said the project extends beyond physical repairs and is intended to improve access for people relying on the organization’s services.
“These improvements are about much more than bricks and mortar—they are about creating a safe, accessible, and dignified environment for the survivors and families who rely on our services every day,” Wideman-Scott said.
The organization did not provide a timeline for completion of the planned upgrades.
