WAYNE, PA — Thirty-five years of afternoon teas, warm scones, and special occasions are giving A Taste of Britain another reason to celebrate — and this time, the Wayne community will share in the occasion.
The tea room will mark its 35th anniversary throughout October with a $35 three-course prix fixe menu, with proceeds from the monthlong celebration benefiting the Wayne Senior Center. A Taste of Britain will also roll back the price of its Full Afternoon Tea to $35 on Mondays through Thursdays during the month.
“A Taste of Britain has been part of this community since Marie Hope first opened the doors in Devon in 1991, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have become part of its story when we took over in 2012,” said Debbie Pierce, who owns the business with her husband, Edward. “What means the most to us is seeing the memories people make here every day.”
The anniversary prix fixe begins with a choice of spinach and apple salad or a warm homemade scone served with clotted cream, strawberry preserves and lemon curd. Scone choices include buttermilk, blueberry citrus, chocolate chip, cherry almond, lemon and pumpkin.
For the second course, diners can choose a toasted croissant sandwich with curried chicken salad, tuna salad or egg salad; an apple, cranberry butter and Brie toastie on grilled sourdough; or the frittata of the day with tomato butter.
Dessert brings a choice between orange posset, a traditional British cream dessert made with fresh orange juice, and warm gingerbread served with lemon curd.

The anniversary version of the Full Afternoon Tea will include a special 35th anniversary tea blend and is reduced from its regular $40 price during the weekday promotion.
For Edward Pierce, connecting the milestone to the Wayne Senior Center was a natural extension of the celebration.
“When we realized that this anniversary was approaching, we knew we wanted to use the celebration to benefit a local non-profit in the community that we love and appreciate, and the Wayne Senior Center was an easy choice,” he said. “They do so much good in the community, so it’s really a no-brainer for us to help them any way we can.”
A Taste of Britain began in Devon in 1991 before Debbie and Edward Pierce took ownership in 2012. Today, the Wayne tea room serves lunch and tea seven days a week, with more than 50 teas, a made-from-scratch menu and a retail shop devoted to British goods.
For the Pierces, however, the anniversary is as much about the people who have made the tea room part of their lives as it is about reaching 35 years.
“A Taste of Britain has become part of so many of our guests’ traditions and celebrations,” Debbie Pierce said, “and we never take for granted that they choose to share those special moments with us.”
