HBO’s Task, a series created by Chester County native Brad Ingelsby and filmed throughout Delaware County, was renewed for Season 2 back in November 2025 and recently announced the addition of a superstar to its Season 2 cast.
Starring alongside Mark Ruffalo, who plays the role of priest-turned-FBI agent Tom Brandis in the show, will be Mahershala Ali. Frequent television and movie viewers will likely be familiar with some of Ali’s work. He is a two-time Oscar winner, earning Best Supporting Actor honors for his roles in both Moonlight (2016) and Green Book (2018). Ali also starred in the third season of HBO’s True Detective, as well as in Jurassic World: Rebirth and Leave the World Behind.
Reports indicate that Ali will take on the role of Eddie Barnes, a veteran and well-respected DEA agent in Philadelphia whose team finds itself at odds with Brandis’s task force.
For now, outside of Ruffalo, Ali remains the only confirmed cast member for Season 2.
Details regarding the plot of the second season have not been released yet. All HBO has shared so far is: “Brandis takes the helm of a new task force, but the deeper the operation runs, the harder it is to tell who’s the target.”
Fans are anxious for Season 2 to begin filming, and now with Ali on board, the anticipation is only growing.
