PHOENIXVILLE, PA — Thousands of horror fans, movie lovers, and curious visitors will once again descend on downtown Phoenixville this summer as Blobfest returns to The Colonial Theatre, transforming the borough into a three-day celebration of cult-film history, community tradition, and delightfully spooky fun.
Now in its 27th year, Blobfest will take place July 10-12, honoring Phoenixville’s starring role in the 1958 sci-fi classic The Blob. The annual festival has grown into one of the region’s most recognizable summer traditions, drawing visitors from across the country to celebrate the film, the theater, and the unforgettable scene filmed at The Colonial Theatre.
This year, organizers are adding a carnival-inspired twist with the theme “Cirque Du Blobfest,” bringing new immersive experiences, circus-inspired entertainment, and fresh traditions to the already packed weekend lineup.
“What makes Blobfest so special is the way it brings people together,” said Jennifer Carlson, executive director of The Colonial Theatre. “Every summer, we welcome longtime fans, first-time visitors, and families from across the country to celebrate a shared love of film, tradition, and community. This year’s Cirque Du Blobfest theme allows us to honor that tradition while introducing fresh experiences that make the weekend even more memorable.”
Among the biggest additions is an immersive opening-night experience featuring a ringmaster, carnival musicians, audience participation, and a first-ever Rocky Horror Picture Show-style screening of The Blob. The evening culminates with the festival’s signature Run-Out, when hundreds of attendees race from the theater reenacting the movie’s famous escape scene.
Festivalgoers can also participate in the inaugural Dinner en Blob, a playful take on the popular Dinner en Blanc concept. Guests dressed entirely in red will gather at a secret location to create a sea of crimson while sharing food, drinks, and community spirit.
Throughout the weekend, visitors can enjoy screenings of circus-themed favorites including Dumbo, Big Top Pee-Wee, Clown in a Cornfield, and Killer Klowns from Outer Space.
Saturday’s festivities bring much of the action outdoors with the free Street Fair and Kids Carnival. More than 100 vendors will line downtown Phoenixville, while families can enjoy face painting, games, Baby Blob Hunts, dance lessons, live music, magic shows, and interactive activities. The annual Costume Contest returns at 1 p.m., giving festival attendees another chance to showcase their most creative creations.
The weekend concludes Sunday with the 9th Annual Blobfest 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon, additional film screenings, and the debut of Dinner en Blob, creating a memorable finale to one of Chester County’s most distinctive annual events.
