KENNETT SQUARE, PA — From prize-winning pumpkins and homemade pies to tractor parades, livestock competitions, and old-fashioned family fun, one of southern Chester County’s most cherished traditions is preparing to celebrate another milestone year.
The 102nd Unionville Community Fair will return to Kennett Square from Oct. 2–4, bringing together generations of residents to showcase what they have grown, raised, baked, crafted, photographed, painted, built, and collected while honoring the region’s deep agricultural roots.
This year’s theme, “America at 250: Rooted in Freedom, Raised by Farming,” connects the fair’s longstanding agricultural heritage with the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary celebration.
For more than a century, the fair has served as a gathering place for the Unionville community, welcoming everyone from preschool children to senior citizens to participate in exhibits, competitions, entertainment, and educational activities.
Visitors can explore the popular Exhibit Barn, meet local farmers and livestock exhibitors, enjoy food from a variety of vendors, and take part in dozens of activities designed for all ages throughout the three-day event.
Among this year’s featured attractions is Boston Bachert’s Spectacular Variety Show, a high-energy performance featuring juggling, magic, comedy, circus arts, audience participation, and the Cyr wheel. Bachert will perform throughout the weekend.
The fair will also feature returning favorites including the Dairy Cow Show, Dairy Goat Show, Tractor Parade, Cow Milking Contest, Antique Car Show, Hayrides, Face Painting, Kiddie Corral, Beer and Wine Garden, and the always-popular Cow Pie Bingo, where participants can compete for a $1,000 prize.
Students and community groups will once again play a major role in the festivities. Members of the Unionville High School National Arts Honor Society will provide free face painting, while the UCF Tech Challenge Robotics Club will host a Robotics and STEM Tent featuring hands-on activities and robot-driving demonstrations for children and families.
Music will fill the fairgrounds throughout the weekend with performances by Rick’s Office Band, The Yesterdays News Band, and The Teacher Band, while the annual Lip Sync Competition returns with divisions for elementary, middle school, high school, and adult performers.
The celebration begins even before opening day with the annual Fair Queen and Princess Pageant on Sept. 17 at Unionville Elementary School and a community Tailgate event on Oct. 1 to kick off the weekend.
