Theater Returning to Chester County

CHESTER COUNTY, PA — Arts and Athletics Club is returning to the stage for the first time since January 2020 with its Original Theater Festival the week of June 7th. Arts and Athletics Club is a nonprofit organization in Chester County that brings community together for original theater productions. Arts and Athletics Club opens its doors to all community members, regardless of experience level.

“Our goal is to bring people together through the arts,” says executive director, Chris Hutelmyer. “With this outdoor theater festival, we have over 40 participants from all over Chester County performing in the different one act plays. Some will be on stage for the first time of their lives.”

The Theater Festival will debut four original shows in three nights. On Tuesday June 8th at 7PM, Death of a Mailman will be performed by the High School Coatesville Cast at West Brandywine Park. There will be a double header on Wednesday June 9th at Wilson Farm Park with Awkward (Malvern Middle School Cast) at 7PM and The Artist (Malvern Adult Cast) at 8PM. The festival will conclude with Wedding Bells (Coatesville Adult Cast) back at West Brandywine Park at 7PM on June 10th. To ensure everyone has access to the performances, tickets are only $5.

“The festival will have something for everyone,” says performer, Jessica Reagan. “We have Superhero Mailmen, Aliens, Mermaids and more. All shows are family-friendly and full of laughs.”

While Arts and Athletics Club works to present this festival, the team is already preparing for its next round of performances. The nonprofit is teaming up with “Save Connor” for a special Theater Fundraiser in August to help raise money and awareness for Connor, a Chester County 12 year old diagnosed with Sanfilippo disease, similar to Alzheimer’s in children.

“We want to use the arts to help,” says Hutelmyer. “When we heard Connor’s story, we knew Arts and Athletics Club needed to put something together to help out our Chester County neighbor. We are putting together a show that we hope Connor will enjoy featuring superheroes and nerf fights.”

The organization is currently looking for high school and middle school performers in the Malvern- Tredyffrin Area to fill the roles and act in this fundraiser production. For more information and to register for free visit artsandathleticsclub.com/summerproductions.
