EXTON, PA — Girls Exploring Tomorrow’s Technology® (GETT) will hold its annual free educational expo this fall to inspire girls to learn about careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Hosted by the Innovative Technology Action Group (ITAG), an initiative of the Chester County Economic Development Council (CCEDC), GETT is now in its 26th year and has connected thousands of girls with hands-on STEM experiences and industry role models. GETT invites girls in grades 4-10 to participate in this free event on Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center at Oaks.
“Events such as GETT help make science and technology approachable, not intimidating,” said Daisy Adams, GETT Chair and Senior Director, Digital Operations and NOC at Bentley Systems. “We have seen this one-day experience become so popular over the years, giving girls an opportunity to have fun while learning about future careers they may not have envisioned on their own. Our many corporate sponsors are to be credited for helping us make GETT possible.”
This regional partnership has helped bring together female tech leaders with school-aged girls who are eager to learn about a variety of STEM fields,” said Marianne Stack, ITAG Project Director, Chester County Economic Development Council. “GETT gives these girls an opportunity to participate in a wide variety of fun, hands-on STEM learning activities in just a few hours. It also introduces them to the companies, professionals, and career paths that exist in our region, helping them envision future opportunities close to home and strengthening our local talent pipeline.”
The expo will include more than 100 hands-on STEM activities in fields such as computer science, engineering, coding, robotics, healthcare, environmental science, culinary arts, on-air and behind-the-scenes broadcasting, architectural design, and more.
