COATESVILLE, PA — The City of Coatesville officially welcomed residents back to Ash Park on Tuesday, celebrating the completion of the first two phases of a more than $4 million restoration project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community celebration.

City officials, elected leaders, funding partners, and community members gathered to mark the reopening of one of Coatesville’s most beloved public spaces. Following remarks from local, county, state, and federal leaders, officials cut the ceremonial ribbon before inviting residents and families to explore the park’s new amenities and enjoy an afternoon of entertainment and recreation.

“The City of Coatesville and its residents have been waiting to see the completion of restoration Phases I & II in Ash Park, a prominent open space and gathering spot in the City,” said James Logan, City Manager. “This $4 million+ restoration project was a joint visionary collaboration of state, federal, and local grantmaking partners. We are also grateful to have community youth and residents join in on the planning and design process to ensure our youth will have features that meet their needs. We thank everyone involved. A special thanks goes out to Roberta Cosentino, Assistant City Manager, for her leadership and coordination with our construction teams.”

In addition to Logan and Cosentino, the event’s speakers included U.S. Rep. Chrissy Houlahan; State Representative Dan Williams; Commissioner Josh Maxwell, Chair; Commissioner Marian Moskowitz, Vice-Chair; Council President Linda Lavender Norris; Council Vice President Carmen Green; and Councilmember Tiniera Turner-Green.

The revitalized park transforms Ash Park into a modern destination for recreation, play, and community gatherings. New amenities include expanded play and recreation areas, renovated basketball courts with a new third court, a vibrant splash pad replacing the former swimming pool that had been out of service for more than a decade, a new common gathering area, extensive landscaping and stormwater infrastructure improvements, and a new pavilion with seating and public restrooms.

“We are extremely excited that Ash Park is back, a hub where residents can enjoy accessible and safe play and recreation,” said Councilmember Tiniera Turner-Green of the 2nd Ward, where Ash Park is located. “Ash Park is a vibrant amenity for Coatesville and a wonderful asset for our residents, as well as residents of neighboring communities.”

Following the ribbon cutting, residents gathered to celebrate the reopening, enjoying refreshments, entertainment, and the opportunity to experience the park’s new features firsthand. Children splashed through the new water play area, families explored the expanded recreation spaces, and neighbors reconnected.

Tuesday’s reopening marks the completion of Phases I and II of the long-term revitalization plan. Future phases, scheduled to begin in 2028, will include upgrades to the soccer field and playground as well as the construction of an additional picnic pavilion.
