KENNETT SQUARE, PA — An unforgettable evening of garden-fresh cuisine, elegant dining, and philanthropy is coming to Longwood Gardens this fall as guests are invited to enjoy a one-night-only culinary experience celebrating the harvest season while supporting the James Beard Foundation.
An Evening at Longwood, Featuring 1906, will take place Saturday, Sept. 19, beginning with a reception in Longwood’s Ornamental Kitchen Garden before moving to the acclaimed 1906 restaurant for an exclusive six-course dinner crafted from ingredients harvested at their seasonal peak.
The evening offers guests a behind-the-scenes look at the collaboration between Longwood’s horticulturists and culinary team, whose partnership shapes the restaurant’s menus throughout the growing season. Vegetables, herbs, fruits, and flowers harvested just steps from the kitchen serve as the foundation for dishes that showcase the flavors of the Brandywine Valley.
“Our culinary philosophy begins in the Gardens,” Executive Chef George Murkowicz said. “Working closely with our team of dedicated horticulturists allows us to build a one-of-a-kind menu, using only the best ingredients. We are excited to share that unique experience while supporting the James Beard Foundation.”
Following the reception, guests will enjoy a specially curated six-course menu prepared exclusively for the event by Murkowicz and his culinary team. Each course highlights seasonal ingredients from Longwood’s gardens alongside regional products from the Brandywine Valley. Optional wine pairings will be available for an additional cost.
The evening will also feature remarks from Heather Considine Varian, vice president of philanthropy for the James Beard Foundation, who will share insights into the foundation’s mission and impact.
Named for the year founder Pierre S. du Pont purchased Longwood Gardens, 1906 has become one of the Philadelphia region’s premier dining destinations, known for its refined hospitality, seasonal menus, and sweeping views of the Main Fountain Garden.
