Six-Month Closure of Cheyney Road Will Upend Daily Commutes

THORNBURY TWP, PA — Drivers in Delaware County will face long-term disruptions as Cheyney Road closes on weekdays for a bridge replacement project beginning Monday, May 11.

Cheyney Road will be fully closed and detoured around the clock on weekdays between Glen Mills Road and Creek Road as crews replace the aging structure.

Passenger vehicles will be directed to use Creek Road/Westtown Road, Route 926 (Street Road), U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike), Dilworthtown Road, Concord Road, Westtown Road, and Glen Mills Road.

Truck traffic will follow a separate route using Creek Road/Westtown Road, Route 926 (Street Road), U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike), and U.S. 322/U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike).

Local access will be maintained, but motorists should expect congestion near the work zone and along detour routes. Plan extra time, especially during peak travel hours.

The project will replace a 94-year-old bridge with a wider reinforced concrete box culvert, adding five feet on each side to support two 11-foot travel lanes and four-foot shoulders.
