WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington police said two people injured in a daytime shooting and a third individual were arrested following an investigation into gunfire reported in the city.
Police reported that officers with the Uniformed Services Division responded around 12:10 p.m. on March 4 to the unit block of Cedar Street for a report of a shooting.
According to police, officers located Brian Ringgold, 54, suffering from a gunshot wound. Authorities said he was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
Officers also located Kaishira Burton, 29, who police said had also been struck by gunfire. According to investigators, she was transported to a hospital in stable condition. Police reported that a firearm was recovered at the scene.
Police said the case was assigned to Detective Joran Merced of the Criminal Investigation Division. According to investigators, the investigation determined Burton allegedly shot Ringgold, who then allegedly returned fire and struck Burton.
Authorities reported that Burton has been charged with attempted murder in the first degree, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, aggravated menacing, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, and discharging a weapon. Police said she was arraigned in New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and committed to the Delores J. Baylor Correctional Institution on $109,100 cash-only bail.
Police said Ringgold has been charged with assault in the first degree, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, and discharging a weapon. According to authorities, he was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $63,100 cash-only bail.
Investigators said officers also made contact with Shadara Cooper, 35, who police allege removed a second firearm from the scene. Authorities reported Cooper was later located in the 100 block of Stroud Street and taken into custody without incident.
Police said Cooper has been charged with tampering with physical evidence. According to authorities, she was arraigned in New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and released on $500 unsecured bail.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
