SPRINGFIELD, PA — A routine blood donation could turn into the trip of a lifetime next month as state lawmakers team up with the American Red Cross to boost supplies during National Blood Donor Month — and offer donors a chance to win Super Bowl tickets.
State Sen. Tim Kearney and state Rep. Jennifer O’Mara will host a community blood drive on Wednesday, January 7, at the Springfield YMCA, urging residents to roll up their sleeves at a time when blood inventories often run dangerously low.
The drive will run from noon to 5 p.m. at the Springfield YMCA gym, located at 194 West Sproul Road. Organizers say each donation can save up to three lives or help patients managing chronic illnesses, trauma, or undergoing surgery.
As an added incentive, anyone who donates blood between January 1 and January 25 will be entered for a chance to win a trip for two to Super Bowl LX in California. Details about the sweepstakes are available at rcblood.org/SuperBowl.
The January 7 drive is being held in partnership with the American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania and is open to eligible donors from across the region.
Appointments are encouraged. Donors can schedule a time by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or by visiting redcrossblood.org and entering the sponsor code “Kearney Omara.”
Organizers said the combination of a critical public health need and a once-in-a-lifetime prize is meant to draw attention to the ongoing demand for blood donations, particularly during the winter months when supplies often fall short.
The event will take place at the Springfield YMCA-Gym, 194 West Sproul Road, Springfield, Pennsylvania 19064, from noon until 5 p.m.
