WAYNE, PA — Ballard Designs is planting a new retail flag along the Main Line, relocating from the King of Prussia Mall to a standalone storefront on historic East Lancaster Avenue in Wayne as the home furnishings brand leans into visibility, experience, and destination shopping.
The move reflects a broader shift among specialty retailers seeking closer ties to walkable downtown districts after years inside enclosed malls. For Ballard Designs, the Wayne location offers a prominent street presence in one of the Philadelphia region’s most established corridors for boutique retail and high-end design.
“After a decade of working in a closed mall environment, moving to a beautiful, standalone space in downtown Wayne is thrilling for our loyal staff and customers,” said Dominic Milanese, vice president of retail for Ballard Designs. He said the Main Line setting better showcases the brand while placing it in a highly visible, neighborhood-oriented environment.
The building itself carries retail history. Originally constructed as a Woolworth’s five-and-dime, the space has been renovated into an open, light-filled showroom designed to feel connected to the surrounding district. The location places Ballard Designs within walking distance of dining destinations, including the Wayne Hotel, and benefits from nearby rail access and ample paid parking.
Inside, the store features curated room vignettes meant to encourage browsing rather than quick transactions. White walls accented with trend-forward colors, a reclaimed rustic ceiling, Parisian-inspired kitchen islands, and library-style bookcases frame the brand’s latest furniture and décor collections.
The showroom also supports Ballard’s higher-touch sales strategy. Customers can browse hundreds of designer fabrics and book complimentary consultations with in-house design specialists. The full staff from the former King of Prussia store has relocated to Wayne, preserving relationships with long-time customers while introducing the brand to new foot traffic.
For the Main Line retail landscape, Ballard’s arrival reinforces Wayne’s reputation as a destination for design-focused shopping. For Ballard Designs, the move signals confidence that physical stores, when placed in the right location and designed for experience, remain a key driver of brand engagement and sales.
