WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police have charged a 21-year-old man following an investigation into alleged illegal marijuana sales operating out of a Lancaster Avenue business, authorities announced.
According to police, investigators from the Uniformed Services Division and the Drug, Organized Crime and Vice Division, working in coordination with Delaware Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement, began probing suspected illegal marijuana sales earlier this month at the Red Eye Smoke Shop in the 2300 block of Lancaster Avenue.
On December 10 at approximately noon, officers executed a search warrant at the business. Police allege that investigators recovered approximately 9.57 pounds of marijuana and THC-related products during the search. Lateik Mitchell, 21, was taken into custody without incident.
Police said Mitchell was also found to be wanted on an unrelated matter out of Ohio at the time of his arrest.
Mitchell has been charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver in a Tier 2 quantity, possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 2 quantity, and possession of drug paraphernalia. All charges are allegations.
Following his arrest, Mitchell was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $12,300 cash-only bail.
Investigators also determined that the business was allegedly operating without a valid business license. Police contacted Licenses and Inspections to pursue additional administrative action related to the operation of the shop.
As with all criminal matters, a suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
