PHILADELPHIA, PA — Motorists traveling along Columbus Boulevard should anticipate daytime congestion next week as PennDOT continues work on a regional safety initiative aimed at reducing serious and fatal lane-departure crashes.
Beginning Monday, December 15, and continuing through Tuesday, December 23, a weekday lane closure will be in effect from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM in both directions of Columbus Boulevard at the intersection with the northbound I-95 Columbus Boulevard/Washington Avenue (Exit 20) ramp.
The restrictions are part of a federally funded $3.5 million project that includes installing new signage and other safety features to improve driver awareness and reduce crashes across the five-county Philadelphia region.
PennDOT warned that backups are likely, especially during late-morning and early-afternoon travel. Drivers are urged to allow extra time, remain alert in the work zone, and consider alternate routes when possible. All work is weather dependent.
