ELKTON, MD — When Legends on Main commissioned local artist and Cecil College student Mia Pedone to paint murals on its glass windows, it was more than a chance to decorate—it marked the beginning of a promising career.

Pedone, a second-year fine arts student and 2024 graduate of Bohemia Manor High School, has long been passionate about art. Her latest work captures Elkton’s community spirit with scenes of the Elkton Music Hall, the Cecil County Arts Council, and Elkton High School, represented by its elk mascot.

“This is a really cool opportunity, one I never thought I would get this early in my college career,” Pedone said. “Now, I have a lot of people who want murals from me.”

She credits Cecil College faculty for sharpening her skills, particularly in perspective drawing and painting techniques, which proved vital in executing the large-scale project. Adjunct instructor Josh Schaefer’s lessons in perspective helped her accurately render buildings, while Associate Professor Mark Donohue’s instruction enabled her to speed her process without losing quality.

Her father, Joe Pedone, assisted on-site with design details, underscoring the family support behind her work. Professors like Lauren Vanni, who introduced her to ceramics, also played a role in expanding her artistic range.

Pedone plans to continue her education at institutions such as the Savannah College of Art and Design or the Rhode Island School of Design, with the goal of building a career centered on murals and public art. She will showcase her work in a solo exhibition at the Elkton Station Gallery next September.
