WILMINGTON, DE — A 19-year-old Wilmington man has been arrested and charged in connection with a carjacking that took place earlier this month on the city’s east side, according to the Wilmington Police Department.
The incident occurred on July 3, 2025, at approximately 7:25 p.m., when officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Townsend Place following reports of a carjacking. Upon arrival, police made contact with the victim and were able to recover the stolen vehicle shortly thereafter. The vehicle had been left unattended when officers located it.
The case was assigned to Detective Brendan Wham of the department’s Criminal Investigations Division. During the course of the investigation, Detective Wham identified Shameiz Johnson, 19, as one of the two suspects allegedly involved in the crime. Authorities obtained arrest warrants and Johnson was later taken into custody by the Delaware State Police.
Johnson has been charged with the following offenses:
- Robbery in the First Degree
- Theft of a Motor Vehicle
- Second-Degree Conspiracy
- Theft Under $1,500
Following his arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court 11, Johnson was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $26,000 cash-only bail.
