WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced upcoming nighttime lane closures on Interstate 476 as part of a $63.7 million infrastructure improvement initiative spanning nearly 17 miles between I-76 in Montgomery County and I-95 in Delaware County.
Beginning Monday, August 4, through Tuesday, August 12, single and multiple-lane closures will take place between 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM across multiple segments of I-476 and nearby ramps. The affected areas include northbound and southbound lanes near key interchanges such as U.S. 1, Route 3 (West Chester Pike), Baltimore Pike, and Lancaster Avenue. Ramp closures will also be in effect at select access points.
This work is part of a comprehensive project that involves resurfacing travel lanes and shoulders, repairing 49 bridges, upgrading 21 stormwater management basins to address slope stability, replacing inlets, and rehabilitating sound walls. Additional enhancements include the installation of new pavement markings, delineators, rumble strips, signage, and guiderails.
According to PennDOT, the improvements are intended to extend the highway’s lifespan, enhance driving conditions, and address deteriorating roadside infrastructure.
H&K Group, Inc., based in Skippack, is managing the federally funded project. PennDOT advises motorists to anticipate delays and allow extra travel time, noting that all scheduled work is weather dependent.
