Loaded Gun, Stolen Firearm, and Crack Cocaine: Wilmington Traffic Stop Leads to Major Felony Bust

WILMINGTON, DE — A Wilmington man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities allegedly uncovered a stolen firearm, high-capacity magazine, and drugs during a traffic stop earlier this week.

According to the New Castle County Division of Police, detectives from the department’s Active Crime Trend Team initiated a traffic stop around 9:21 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, near Alban Drive and Maryland Avenue. The vehicle, a black Chevrolet Malibu, was reportedly operated by 25-year-old Damean Dunham of Wilmington.

During the stop, detectives say they discovered a loaded handgun with a high-capacity magazine inside the vehicle. A subsequent check revealed that the firearm had been reported stolen from Philadelphia. Investigators also allege they found a small quantity of crack cocaine in Dunham’s possession.

Dunham was taken into custody without incident and transported to police headquarters. He now faces a series of charges, including:

  • Felony possession of a large capacity magazine during the commission of a felony
  • Felony possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony
  • Felony possession of a firearm by a prohibited person
  • Felony carrying a concealed deadly weapon
  • Felony receiving a stolen firearm
  • Felony possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited
  • Misdemeanor possession of a counterfeit substance
  • Misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Misdemeanor driving with a suspended or revoked license
  • Traffic violations for expired tags and failure to signal

Following his arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court 11, Dunham was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $154,601 cash bail.

All charges are considered allegations, and Damean Dunham is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
