PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania SPCA is urgently seeking adopters this week as it reduces adoption fees to $25 for all dogs and cats who have been in the shelter for 30 days or more. The promotion runs through Sunday, July 6, at the organization’s Philadelphia headquarters, Main Line Animal Rescue, and Danville Center locations.
The move comes after the HVAC system at the PSPCA’s Lancaster Center failed, forcing the center to shut down and relocate dozens of animals to already crowded facilities. Combined with recent Animal Law Enforcement rescues and a seasonal slowdown in adoptions, the organization is now operating at critical capacity levels.
Eligible animals include dogs and cats who have been awaiting adoption for at least 30 days — pets that are often overlooked and most in need of new homes. The reduced fee is designed to ease the strain on shelter resources while helping more animals find permanent, loving families.
Despite the discounted fees, the PSPCA emphasized that all standard adoption procedures and screening processes will remain in place to ensure animals are matched appropriately with adopters. Adoption hours are from 12 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily at all participating locations.
The organization hopes that the temporary fee reduction will encourage more people to adopt and help relieve overcrowding before it becomes an even more serious challenge.
Through this initiative, the PSPCA aims to offer these long-waiting animals a second chance while creating space for incoming rescues that continue to arrive.
