Who Was He? Police Search for Clues in Fatal Philly Hit-and-Run

PHILADELPHIA, PAPhiladelphia Police are investigating a tragic hit-and-run that claimed the life of a pedestrian late Friday night in West Philadelphia. The incident occurred at approximately 11:35 p.m. on the 400 block of North 63rd Street.

Investigators reported that a dark-colored SUV, possibly a 2015-2017 Lincoln Navigator, struck a 47-year-old man who was lying partially in the roadway. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene without stopping and was last seen heading east on Girard Avenue. The vehicle is believed to have out-of-state license plates on both the front and rear bumpers.

The victim was transported to Lankenau Medical Center for treatment but was pronounced dead at 12:21 a.m. on Saturday, May 3.

The Philadelphia Police Department’s Crash Investigation Division is leading the ongoing investigation. Authorities have urged anyone with information about the vehicle or incident to contact the Crash Investigation Division at 215-685-3181, or submit anonymous tips at 215-686-TIPS (8477).

The public is reminded that any suspect or person of interest is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
