WEST CHESTER, PA — Parts of Chester County recorded more than 8 inches of snow in the past 24 hours as a major winter storm continued Monday, with additional accumulation expected before the system tapers off this evening, according to the National Weather Service.
Preliminary snowfall reports show Malvern received 8.6 inches and Exton 8.5 inches. East Nantmeal measured 7.8 inches, while Berwyn recorded 6.5 inches.
West Chester reported 6.2 inches, Jennersville 6.1 inches, and Oxford 5.5 inches. Chesterbrook measured 5 inches, and West Grove reported 3 inches. West Goshen was listed at 6.1 inches.
The National Weather Service has a Winter Storm Warning in effect for Chester County until 6:00 p.m. Monday.
Forecasters said heavy snow will continue through the morning, with additional accumulations of 3 to 5 inches possible and wind gusts reaching up to 45 mph.
Snowfall rates could exceed 1 inch per hour at times, with localized higher totals possible. Blowing and drifting snow may create near-whiteout conditions.
Officials warned that travel could be very difficult, particularly during the Monday morning and evening commutes. Gusty winds combined with heavy, wet snow may weigh down tree branches and power lines, leading to scattered outages.
For Chester County residents, the snowfall totals already reported signal significant impacts to road conditions across major corridors, including U.S. Route 30 and Route 202, as well as secondary municipal roads.
The forecast calls for snow to diminish by late afternoon, with a high near 37 degrees and northwest winds of 20 to 25 mph, gusting up to 40 mph.
Tonight will remain mostly cloudy with patchy blowing snow before midnight and a low around 20.
Tuesday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 31. Another system may bring snow late Tuesday night into Wednesday, followed by a mix of snow and rain.
Rain and snow are also possible on Thursday before conditions turn mostly sunny heading into the weekend, with highs climbing into the 40s and low 50s by Saturday.
Residents are urged to use caution if traveling and to keep emergency supplies in their vehicles.
