Icy Start Gives Way to a Springlike Surge by Weekend

Chester County Weather

CHESTER COUNTY, PA — A chilly, unsettled start to the week will gradually transition into a remarkable warmup by next weekend, giving Chester County residents a little taste of spring after several rounds of rain, snow, and even a touch of ice. The week’s story is one of sharp contrasts—morning slick spots and gray skies early on, followed by highs soaring into the 60s by Saturday.

Today begins with a few rain showers before 9 a.m., followed by a brief window for light snow showers mid-morning. Little to no accumulation is expected, but the early commute could feature damp pavement and a few slick bridges as temperatures hover near 40 degrees. Skies gradually brighten by afternoon, becoming mostly sunny with a north wind of 5 to 10 mph. Tonight turns sharply colder under mostly clear skies, with overnight lows dipping to around 18 degrees. Any residual moisture will refreeze, so Monday morning drivers should watch for black ice.

Monday stays mostly sunny but cool, with highs only reaching about 35 degrees. Clouds increase Monday night, and after 1 a.m., a chance of snow develops, mixing with freezing rain toward daybreak Tuesday. Lows fall to around 24 degrees, and while snow and ice accumulations are expected to be light—less than a half inch of snow and a glaze of ice under a tenth of an inch—it will be enough to create hazardous conditions for the Tuesday morning commute.

Tuesday is the week’s most complicated weather day. Snow and freezing rain early give way to plain rain by afternoon as temperatures climb to around 43 degrees. Expect a messy start, with slick sidewalks and untreated roads before the changeover. By Tuesday night, steady rain continues, with lows near 38 degrees and rainfall totals between a quarter and half an inch possible. Ponding in low-lying areas could slow the Wednesday morning drive.

By Wednesday, however, the atmosphere begins to flip the script. Highs surge to around 55 degrees under cloudy skies, with only a 30% chance of lingering showers. Wednesday night remains mild, with lows around 44 degrees. That warming trend accelerates Thursday, when highs approach 66 degrees despite mostly cloudy skies and a chance of rain. It won’t be a washout, but outdoor plans should remain flexible. Friday stays unseasonably mild, with highs near 60 degrees and scattered showers possible, before skies trend drier Friday night with lows around 45 degrees.

Looking ahead to the weekend, conditions turn notably more pleasant. Saturday brings partly sunny skies and highs near 67 degrees—excellent weather for youth sports, early-season yard work, or even cracking open the windows after a long winter stretch. It may not be ideal for car washing earlier in the week due to lingering showers, but Saturday offers a prime opportunity to clean up salt residue and enjoy a genuine spring preview.
