Chester County Rings in the New Year With Wild Swings, Wind, and a Winter Chill

Chester County Weather

CHESTER COUNTY, PA — If you’re looking for a calm, predictable weather week to close out the year, this isn’t it. Chester County is headed for a classic end-of-December rollercoaster, featuring rain, roaring winds, falling temperatures, and a sharp turn toward true winter just in time for New Year’s celebrations.

Sunday starts gray and unsettled, with a 40 percent chance of rain mainly between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Highs will reach near 42, with calm winds becoming southerly by afternoon. It’s the kind of day that feels damp even when it’s not actually raining.

Tonight stays cloudy with spotty rain chances before and after midnight. Temperatures will rise overnight, reaching around 45 by daybreak Monday, as south winds increase to 10 mph with gusts up to 20 mph. Yes, it will be warmer at 5 a.m. than it was Sunday afternoon — welcome to late December.

Monday delivers the week’s biggest weather drama. Showers are likely during the morning commute, then skies gradually clear as temperatures briefly surge to near 54 before plunging through the afternoon into the upper 30s. Strong southwest winds of 15 to 20 mph, gusting up to 40 mph, will make it feel much colder as the day goes on. Hold onto your hats, trash cans, and any holiday decorations that are still standing.

Monday night remains breezy and cold, with lows around 25 and west winds still gusting near 40 mph.

Tuesday stays blustery and cold, with partial sunshine and highs near 32. Gusts could reach 45 mph, making it feel downright bitter. Tuesday night drops to around 23 under partly cloudy skies.

Midweek brings a slight moderation. Wednesday is partly sunny with a high near 37, followed by a mostly cloudy night with lows near 24.

New Year’s Day arrives under mostly cloudy skies and a high near 33 — cold, but cooperative for outdoor plans if you’re bundled up properly. Thursday night dips to around 19, setting up a frigid end to the week.

Friday turns bright but cold, with sunshine and highs near 29, followed by a clear and cold night near 18. Saturday offers some relief, with mostly sunny skies and highs climbing back to around 36.

Bottom line: expect wind, temperature whiplash, and a steady slide into winter’s deep end. Dress in layers, secure anything lightweight outdoors, and prepare for a blustery welcome to 2026.
