WESTTOWN, PA — One of Chester County’s earliest commemorations of America’s 250th anniversary will unfold Tuesday morning with the words that helped ignite a nation.
On Tuesday, January 27, at 10 a.m., Westminster Presbyterian Church in Westtown will host “Voices of the Founding Fathers,” a free public program featuring dramatic readings of historic speeches by Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry. The event, presented by local historian Dave Walter, is being billed as a kickoff to local observances of America 250, marking the nation’s upcoming semiquincentennial in 2026.
An actor will deliver Patrick Henry’s famous “Give Me Liberty” speech, followed by a dramatic recitation of Thomas Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence, bringing the founding-era texts to life for a modern audience.
The program will be held in Spellman Hall at Westminster Presbyterian Church, located at 10 W. Pleasant Grove Road, at Route 202. The presentation is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and is open to the public at no cost.
Organizers say the event is intended to spark early reflection on the ideals, tensions, and rhetoric that shaped the nation’s founding, as communities across Pennsylvania and the country prepare for a year of America 250 programming.
The program is sponsored by the Tuesday Morning Fellowship Group of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
